Who am I?

My name is Leo Hayes. I’m a writer. That’s what I do. I am 69 years old and a widower, partly retired and taking the time to do what I’ve always wanted to do.

Words on a page are my passion. I have been writing since I was big enough to hold a fat pencil. While in forth grade in 1959, I published a neighborhood news letter, typed up on an old Remington typewriter Dad found in a second hand store. Boy, did that cost me! I conned my teacher into allowing me to make copies on the school’s mimeograph machine.

Writing saw me through school. English, lit, and writing were my best classes. In math class, A+B=C. What are you talking about? These are letters. Writing tools! A lot of my writing is humorous. But beware, I have a weird sense of humor.

As an author, I am currently compiling a series of anthropomorphic fantasy novels (think Brian Jacques and C.S. Lewis) for teens and young adults. I am also working on a YA sci-fi novel along the lines of Heinlein’s  Starship Troopers. In my spare time I read anything with words on it– except traffic signs. They’re boring.

My primary language is English, but I speak high school German, a little Thai, some Korean, a smattering of French, and I am studying Spanish. I can be fluently misunderstood in six foreign languages, including English.

Welcome to my site. Enjoy your stay.
